INTRODUCTION

With over 12 years of experience as a photography and documentary film lecturer at prestigious institutions such as Sulaimany Polytechnic University and Shanghai University, I have established a reputation as a dynamic and influential educator in the field. My passion for the visual arts and storytelling has guided students towards creative excellence and critical thinking.

TEACHING EXPERTISE AREA

With my teaching expertise in the areas below, I aim to inspire and empower students by providing them with comprehensive knowledge, practical skills, and critical thinking abilities to excel in the fields of photography, documentary filmmaking, and theatre:

- Street Photography and Portrait: I provide education in street photography and portrait techniques, teaching students how to capture compelling images in urban environments and master the art of portraying people in an authentic and captivating manner.

- Photography and Ethics: I offer educational sessions on the ethical considerations in photography, encouraging students to explore and reflect upon the impact of their work on individuals, communities, and cultures. I focus on fostering responsible and respectful storytelling practices.

- Photography; Cultural and Historical Context: I provide educational content that helps students understand how photography intersects with cultural and historical contexts. By analysing and interpreting images in relation to important events, social structures, or cultural movements, students gain a deeper understanding of the power of photography as a visual medium.

- Photography and Displacement: I offer educational resources that explore the theme of displacement in photography. Students learn about the experiences of displaced populations, the visual representation of their stories, and the ethical considerations when documenting issues related to migration, resettlement, or displacement.

- Photography and Diaspora: Through my educational materials, students are introduced to the complexities of diasporic communities and the visual storytelling techniques used to convey their narratives. I focus on how photography can capture the diverse experiences, identities, and cultural heritage of individuals navigating transnational lives.

- Photography Lighting, Composition, and Techniques: I offer workshops and tutorials that teach students various lighting techniques, composition strategies, and technical aspects of photography. Through hands-on activities and guidance, students develop proficiency in using light, composition, and other technical tools to enhance their visual storytelling.

- Conceptual Documentary Film: I provide educational resources on conceptual documentary filmmaking, helping students explore abstract ideas, philosophical concepts, and unconventional approaches to storytelling. Through workshops and discussions, students are encouraged to push the boundaries of traditional documentary filmmaking and engage in challenging narratives.

- Art and Documentary Film: I offer educational content that explores the intersection between art and documentary film, emphasising the creative and artistic elements of nonfiction storytelling. Students learn how to blend aesthetics, social commentary, and unique perspectives to create impactful and visually compelling documentaries.

- Creative Vision for Documentaries: I provide guidance and educational materials to help students develop their creative vision and artistic direction for documentary projects. By focusing on storytelling techniques, visual aesthetics, and authentic narratives, students learn how to bring their unique vision to life.

- Modern Theatre: I offer educational sessions on modern theatre practices, exposing students to contemporary approaches to stage production, storytelling, and audience engagement. Students learn about the various elements that contribute to modern theatre, including innovative techniques, immersive experiences, and cross-disciplinary collaborations.

- Theatre Technique of Acting and Directing: I provide instruction on acting and directing techniques for the stage. Students learn about character development, physicality, vocal techniques, and various directing approaches. Through practical exercises, workshops, and feedback, students develop their skills as actors and directors.

- Theatre of Antonin Artaud: I offer educational content on the Theatre of Cruelty developed by Antonin Artaud. Students learn about Artaud's theories and techniques, such as physicality, ritualistic elements, and sensory experiences in theatre. Through discussions and analysis, students gain a deeper understanding of Artaud's contributions to theatrical practices.

BEYOND THE CONFINES OF THE CLASSROOM

I have made a substantial impact on education through my work with various organisations. From 2005 to 2011, I collaborated with the Banner Theatre Company in Birmingham and the Long Journey Home Organisation in East Midlands, bringing the realms of theatre, film, and photography to over a hundred secondary and high schools. I utilised these mediums as powerful tools for engaging, inspiring, and enlightening young minds.

My commitment to raising awareness and tackling social issues extends further, as demonstrated by my involvement with the Green House Project in Merseyside and Liverpool. Working with this initiative, I visited more than 50 schools, employing theatre and music to address the pressing matter of racism while fostering empathy and understanding among students.

Prior to these endeavours, I contributed my expertise to Save The Children and the Mine Advisory Group in Iraqi Kurdistan from 1996 to 1998. During this time, I tirelessly taught film and theatre, equipping local communities with the means to express themselves and share their stories in the face of adversity.
